Prayze's Toolbox #3: Behringer MS20 Monitors

Anyone who has a studio or a home production setup needs to have monitors right? Well I have some too! My setup just so happen to contain these powered monitors. The Behringer MS20s are small, but don't be fooled. These 10 watt speakers surely pack a wallop!

The story of how I obtained these monitors is a pleasant one. My favorite music store at the time, Daddy's Junky Music, had these on sale for about $60 used. At the time, I had NO monitors at all. I was mixing on a really old and beat up Peavy bass guitar amp. Let me tell you, anything played through this sounded like GARBAGE! I didn't have much money to purchase them, but I knew this was a deal that I just could not pass up at all! I put them on layaway just so that I may be able to get the money together at a later date. A month goes by and I still didn't have the money. Fortunately, God had blessed me with a wife that genuinely supports my music. She had actually been saving money for a while. On Valentines day that year, she decided to spring these on me. I probably was the happiest man on the planet that day. In reality, she got tired of seeing me frustrated about my mixes sounding like poop. She was also noticing that I wasn't making beats like I used to because the bass amp I was using was really THAT bad!(See ladies, it's DEFINITELY okay to buy your man a gift on valentines day!).

I was really surprised by how good they sounded.  Even though they're only 10 watts each, they're really LOUD!!! I only got to test them at full volume once because I have neighbors and I'm sure they would love my music, but they would probably enjoy it a lot more at a lower volume. These have plenty of headroom which is great for mixing. Since they're so small, they don't take up much room on my desktop which leaves room for my laptop and other equipment. Speaking of laptop, that's next. Brace yourselves folks, the next installment will showcase the most important piece in my setup: MY LAPTOP!
