This is the first installment in an ongoing series that takes a look at the equipment that I'm using. Through a lot of hard work and prayer, I will be able to upgrade and purchase the equipment I desperately need to continue my mission. What better way to start the series than to showcase my favorite piece of equipment, the M-Audio Axiom 61!
Now, There are much better keyboard controllers out there this I know. I also realize that isn't the most compatible with my current DAW (Digital Audio Workstation), FL Studio. This thing works for me. I love the options it gives me. This was the largest keyboard in the axiom series. It makes no sound of its own so it has to have a host that it can send its MIDI data to which would be my trusty dusty ol' laptop which I will be displaying later. Now THAT, my friends, needs to be upgraded!
Anyways, like I said, it's a controller, so i can use this to manipulate anything that has to do with MIDI. There are so many possibilities with this. 61 keys, 8 drum pads, 9 volume faders with 9 corresponding buttons, and 8 knobs. Everything is assignable so I can set this up any way that I want. This is probably the best piece of equipment I have. I've had it since 2009 and I honestly haven't gotten much use out of it. This is because I need better equipment around it to be able to play the keys with out delays in the sound. That and there's very complex setup involved with using it with FL Studio.
Once I get a good audio interface and a new laptop for this thing to drive, I'll be using this to make all of my beats. Since this keyboard first came out, M-Audio has updated it so there's a newer version of this out. I don't really know that the difference is besides how it looks....

I really have no intention of buying the newer one... At least not yet. I have much bigger fish to fry! The next installment is my other keyboard, the Casio PX-120! Until next time!
